Liminal Spaces are an internet trend and aesthetic. Liminal, means threshold, the literal doorstep between two spaces, feelings, or moments. Collections of pictures circulate across all the social platforms depicting different subject, such as: dim lit foggy places, bright colourful playgrounds for children, indoor swimming pools with odd water slides, or basements with interiors from the 80s – all completely devoid of human presence. There are video compilations of pictures with fitting music and titles that suggest one will see familiar places, last seen in dreams. In the spirit of a famous singer from Basel with his lyric “Chum bring en hei”, this thesis will take these collections of various artistic mediums and translate them into 3D renders of this school’s hometown. Different places, that are at some point visited when living in Basel, will form the basis of the models to help maintain realism, recognition value and nostalgia potential. Since we live in cities, that we rarely see on-screen, this thesis tries to bring liminal spaces home.
