The short film “Heritage: Preserving the Past, Protecting the Future” is dedicated to the Ukrainian mosaic from the perspective of cultural heritage. By immersing myself in the historical, political and cultural context, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the desired look of my final product. I conducted extensive research on the origins and the current state of Ukrainian mosaics, and explored ways in which I could contribute to their continued existence.

With my project I wanted to raise awareness of mosaics as a valuable cultural heritage with my project. Unfortunately, the efforts to preserve mosaics in Ukraine are insufficient, but the efforts of volunteers and activists are saving many mosaic works.

War is destructive for mosaics and cultural heritage in general. Especially when the enemy’s has a goal is to destroy something important and special.

The mosaic speaks of the events that took place in the country and has an incredibly unique value of preservation. So, my short film will reveal for you a part of Ukrainian culture from the side of the mosaic.
