Italy’s rich cultural heritage includes twelve officially recognized minority languages, including Friulian. Originating from a Latin dialect, Friulian has maintained its distinctiveness despite various historical and social challenges. Although regional statistics indicate about 400,000 speakers, its use is surprisingly modest, confined mainly to private contexts, with a gradual generational decline.
This project aims to use visual communication as a tool to promote endangered minority languages, such as Friulian. By connecting people with resources to engage with the native language, it seeks to reach younger generations who often understand but don’t speak Friulian, due to lack of opportunities. The goal is to recontextualize Friulian and to emphasize its cultural value.
