Why do so many people report working more efficiently in their home office? Why haven’t traditional offices been able to significantly increase productivity?

This master’s theory explores how emotional design can enhance work efficiency and focus through office furniture design. Emotional design influences user experiences by evoking specific emotional responses, addressing both psychological and functional needs. The results show that integrating emotional design into office furniture not only enhances creativity but also positively affects decision-making, logical thinking, and concentration.

Building on these insights, Jiho Kim designed Nolah, a workstation that embodies the principles of emotional design to improve work productivity. Nolah is a workstation that makes workspace more comfortable and enjoyable. The open-bottom design allows users to move and “drive” the workstation to their desired location, supporting flexibility in how and where they work. This playful function helps users connect with their inner child, reducing stress and providing a sense of joy. The mobility encourages dynamic interactions, whether working with colleagues, under the sunlight, or focusing work alone.

Nolah supports various sitting positions and offers the comfort of a home office. It provides a dedicated space for focused work, with a comfortable seat, a wide desk, and integrated electricity for long work sessions. Users can personalize their workstation with accessories like coat hooks, lamps, and plant pots to enhance both functionality and aesthetics. Nolah’s mobility and customization options allow users to adjust their workspace daily to meet their specific needs and preferences. Nolah addresses the emotional and functional needs of users and supports the evolving demands of modern office environments.
