This Master’s thesis explores how embodied experiences of walking, swimming and drifting in the Rhine can be translated into an interactive digital image space.

The project began from the contrast between my earlier experiences of rivers in China, where they were often encountered from a distance as urban scenery, and the Rhine in Basel, which is open, accessible and closely connected to everyday life.

Through photography, video, sound, graphic shapes, 3D scanning and generative processes, these experiences are collected as fragments and reorganised into a shifting visual system in which viewers can move between perspectives and construct their own interpretation of the river.
