Operating within the fields of medicine and sacred notation images, this Master’s thesis investigates why the sound of the human body has so persistently taken the visual form of a line. It gathers a collection of images related to the graphicization of the body through different eras and cultures, asking whether the line’s recurrence stems from the medium producing it or from a deeper homology with sound’s temporal structure.

Using Aby Warburg’s Atlas Mnemosyne as method, the project juxtaposes pairs of images across three levels of technical mediation — hand-tool, machine, algorithm.
