Are Images an Epistemic Medium?

Visual epistemology can be used as a medium to increase understanding and convey knowledge. Through an image-based theory and visual output, images can be analyzed as an epistemic medium. In my thesis, I discuss a range of images that integrate a symbolic scheme, patterns of repetition, metaphoric complexity, and simplicity, which together create a form of visual communication regarding the phenomenon. I then show that image solutions present written and linguistic ideas in another way, and suggest that images are both syntactically and semantically important. My findings and conclusions present the possibility of visual output as an epistemic medium, which can contribute to aiding in understanding and help to gain knowledge.
