I explore the experience of seeing and thinking. What we see and, once we see it, how it influences us. How can seeing and thinking help the next generations to process, enhance and spark new experiences? Within the scope of my thesis, I have been able to identify three areas that warrant further research. An online participation platform – seethinklab.com – has been established for continued research in the following areas:

A) Descriptions of what we see are diverse, but descriptions of what we experience seem to be more universally shared. If we see an image for the first time, it makes an impression, but what happens when we look at it again and again? Or when we take time to look longer at an image, does the experience change?

B) A complete archive of first photographs to my knowledge does not exist and should be established. What’s a first? It’s a photograph that references a singularity, a moment of seeing something for the first time. Images Beyond Logic includes twenty-eight candidates of photographic firsts that in my view have been pioneers in the moments of seeing and thinking. What can be learned through scientific and artistic viewing?

C) Reducing distraction (using the experience enhancer) and taking time to see and think promotes a positive and beneficial experience, improving concentration and focus. The experience enhancer is a piece of fabric that you wear on your head like a small tent. Perhaps if lab coats had hoods and museums visitors were offered experience enhancers there would be more phenomenological moments for Future Seers and Thinkers.
