With the goal of conceiving the screen space as a fictitious reality, this thesis perceives, inquires, and manipulates the format of video. With the desire to spotlight spatial dimension, the project challenges, questions and provokes the standardization of a rectangular frame from which a scene is observed, analysing its origin, and its dominance in a rectangular culture. Hence, the following question will be addressed: can the vast black rectangular screen format be imaged otherwise?

To contrast our viewing habits, the research questions the plasticity of the screen format by delving into creative alternatives of framing and analysing their visual effects under the constraints of the 16:9 common format display. Throughout the analysis, different parameters interplay to nourish expressive and unorthodox ways of framing videos, with the aim of shaping the screen space in order to enhance the qualities of the video content.
